The chair will represent the field of ecosystem services with an environmental-economic or ecological-economic focus in research and teaching, with a teaching assignment of eight semester hours per week (LVS). Priority of teaching lies in the international master's program "Ecosystem Services", which is conducted in English. The chair includes responsibility for the academic coordination and further development of this degree program.The master's program combines the expertise in natural sciences, economics, and social sciences of the International Institute Zittau (IHI), the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at TUD, the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Görlitz, and the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development in Dresden. Membership in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at TUD is intended.

Research and teaching focus on the principles and methods used to assess and evaluate biodiversity and ecosystem services, as well as integrating their values into private and public decision-making processes. The chair encompasses the strategic development of this interdisciplinary field in collaboration with neighboring areas of biodiversity and environmental research, as well as corporate sustainability and biodiversity management. Further responsibilities include the acquisition of competitive external research funding to support collaborative research initiatives and the promotion of early-career scholars. The chair is positioned at the intersection of business and economics, environmental sciences, and biology, engaging in interdisciplinary research and teaching. In addition, the chair involves active collaboration within TUD, including the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Business and Economics, the cross-faculty Center for Sustainability Assessment and Policy (PRISMA) at TUD, the DRESDEN-concept research alliance, the TUD Campus Lausitz, the Hi! Lusatia network, the Academic Coordination Centre (ACC) of the Euroregion Neiße, and other local and international partners. The chair actively participates in academic self-administration and in the university’s committees.

We are seeking an internationally recognized individual (m/f/x) who will provide leadership in representing and advancing the field of ecosystem services, with a focus on environmental economics or ecological economics, in both research and teaching. Your academic qualifications are demonstrated by relevant publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, an established international network, a successful track record in securing external research funding, and proven teaching excellence. Your work should encompass at least two of the following areas related to biodiversity or ecosystem services:

• Economic valuation of the environment
• Social scientific and integrated valuation approaches, e.g., deliberative environmental valuation
• Economic instruments of nature conservation and environmental policy
• Markets for the use and sustainable provision of ecosystem services
• Macroeconomic approaches, such as ecosystem accounting (integration of ecosystem services into environmental-economic accounting)
• Public finance/public economics
• Institutional economic approaches
  In line with interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, you are expected to actively contribute to national and international networks in your field of expertise. You possess the ability to apply and further develop empirical methods, have strong pedagogical skills and teaching experience in the relevant field, and demonstrate the willingness and ability to teach courses in English. Experience in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborative research is considered an asset.

The requirements for appointment, the official duties and the administrative status are governed by §§ 59, 69, 71 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG) and the Saxon Regulation on Official Duties at Higher Education Institutions (HSDAVO). The chair can be filled either as a civil servant position or as an employment position.
