Chair (W2) of Social Psychology (with tenure track to W3)

At the Faculty of Psychology, the Institute of Human Performance in Socio-Technical Systems invites applications for the Chair (W2) of Social Psychology (with tenure track to W3) to be filled at the earliest possible date, initially as a fixed-term position for five years.
Following a successful tenure evaluation procedure, the appointment to a permanent Chair (W3) of Social Psychology is planned. The evaluation procedure is based on mutually agreed evaluation criteria, in particular in the categories of research, academic teaching, academic self-administration and knowledge transfer.

Tasks:

The chair represents the academic field of social psychology in research and teaching. In research, it is expected to have a focus on empirical social psychology and to collaborate with all three research priorities of the Faculty of Psychology. The chair also fulfils an important bridging function to the emerging fields of TUD’s Excellence Strategy, “Neuroscience” and “Societal Change”. The chair is responsible for teaching social psychology in the Bachelor’s degree program in Psychology, the Master’s degree program Psychology: Human Performance in Socio-Technical Systems (HPSTS), and the teachers training program. This includes the supervision of student theses and doctoral dissertations, as well as participation in the further development of these degree programs. The chair is actively involved in academic self-governance and in the committees of the Faculty of Psychology and TUD. The chair also has third-mission responsibilities, such as science communication and continuing education activities.

Requirements:

The tenure phase is designed to foster the systematic development of an independent and internationally visible research and teaching profile. At the time of appointment, candidates are expected to demonstrate clear potential for scholarly development in the advertised areas of specialization.
We expect applicants (m/f/x) to have an empirically oriented research profile in social psychology, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: societal change and social cohesion; sustainable action and responsibility; human–technology interaction; or social cognition and emotion in changing social, technological, and ecological contexts. Relevant publications in respected peer-reviewed journals and a successful track record in acquiring competitive third-party funding are required. In addition, a broad methodological repertoire is expected; experience with neuroscientific, biopsychological, or computational approaches to investigating social processes is desirable. A firm commitment to implementing open science practices, such as preregistration, open data, and openly accessible materials, is expected.
You have demonstrated teaching skills and experience in independently teaching social psychology.
We place particular emphasis on active participation in interdisciplinary research. We expect your willingness to actively contribute to cross-disciplinary projects, such as the acquisition of DFG-funded collaborative research projects, and to cooperate actively with partner institutions within DRESDEN-concept, TUD’s research alliance.
Experience in supervising doctoral candidates and in academic self-governance is a plus. We expect you to actively contribute to the academic self-governance of the Faculty of Psychology and TUD. In addition, you should have an interest in knowledge transfer and science communication.
German language skills are not a prerequisite; however, it is expected that sufficient German language proficiency to carry out teaching and administrative duties will be acquired within two years of appointment.
The requirements for appointment, the official duties and the administrative status are governed by §§ 59, 69, 72 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG) and the Saxon Regulation on Official Duties at Higher Education Institutions (HSDAVO). The chair can be filled either as a civil servant position or as an employment position.
