Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification, employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
At the Faculty of Mathematics, Institute of Mathematical Stochastics, the Chair of Probability Theory offers a position as
Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
starting December 1, 2026. The position comprises 75 % of the fulltime weekly hours and is limited to three years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (usually PhD).

Tasks:

  • contribution to scientific research on stochastic processes with jumps (Lévy processes, Feller processes), non-local operators and semigroups in probability theory
  • contribution to teaching in mathematics degree programs (Bachelor, Master, teacher training) and in courses offered for non-mathematical degree courses according to the Regulations on Duties and Responsibilities of Institutes of Higher Education – HSDAVO
  • participation in tasks of academic self-administration

Requirements:

  • above-average university degree in mathematics
  • good knowledge of stochastic processes
  • knowledge of functional analysis or Fourier analysis
  • for non-native German speakers: very good command of written and spoken German (at least C1 certificate)
