part-time employment may be possible
The research activities of the Autonomous and Energy-Efficient Maritime Technologies group focus on multiphase flows within the maritime domain. Key areas of interest include cavitation and ventilation phenomena and free-surface flows, specifically sloshing, and wave-structure-interaction. Methodologically, the department employs both numerical and experimental methods. For experimental research, the department operates several testing facilities. These primarily include the K27 circulation and cavitation tank, the UT2 circulation tank (currently decommissioned), and the deep and shallow water towing tanks. The numerical methods include Navier-Stokes solvers (such as OpenFOAM) coupled with nonlinear equations of motion and solvers for structural dynamics. This spectrum is complemented by boundary element methods, molecular dynamics methods, and data-driven approaches used alongside classical physics-based models.
The position is related to a DFG-funded project focused on the experimental investigation of fundamental mechanisms of ventilation on hydrofoils operating near a free surface.
A basis for the experimental setup has been established, and initial results are already in hand.
