Research fun­ded by the ERC grant Res­ol­u­tioNet pro­ject - Resolv­ing the Tussle in the Inter­net: Map­ping, Archi­tec­ture, and Policy Mak­ing (http://www.smaragdakis.net/research/ResolutioNet) at Inter­net Meas­ure­ment and Ana­lysis (IMA, https://www.ima.tu-berlin.de/)

Work­ing field:

The research assist­ant will do advanced research in the areas of Inter­net Meas­ure­ment and Inter­net Sys­tems. Work­ing lan­guage is Eng­lish.
  • Col­lec­tion and ana­lysis of large-scale Inter­net/Web data­sets
  • Research on secur­ity and pri­vacy issues of net­worked sys­tems and the Inter­net
  • Col­lab­or­a­tion with some of the best research groups in aca­demia and the Inter­net R&D industry in Europe and the US
  • Dis­sem­in­a­tion/pub­lic­a­tion of the research res­ults at the most com­pet­it­ive inter­na­tional con­fer­ences in the area of Inter­net research

Require­ments:

  • Suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in Com­puter Sci­ence or a closely related field by the time of appoint­ment is required.
  • Advanced exper­i­ence in col­lect­ing and ana­lyz­ing large-scale Inter­net (e.g., pass­ive BGP, act­ive DNS, act­ive prob­ing, act­ive scan­ning data­sets) and Web data­sets (e.g., Web crawl­ing data­sets) and/or build­ing net­work sys­tems in the Inter­net is required
  • Advanced exper­i­ence in Python and script­ing lan­guages is required
  • Advanced knowedge of net­work pro­to­cols and archi­tec­tures (e.g., DNS, BGP, HTTPS, TLS/SSL) is required
  • Exper­i­ence in stat­ist­ical ana­lysis and data min­ing/ machine learn­ing, e.g., with R or Python is a plus
  • Exper­i­ence with data-intens­ive archi­tec­tures (e.g., Hadoop and Spark) is a plus
  • Excel­lent oral and writ­ten skills in Eng­lish are required; will­ing­ness to learn Ger­man
