The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate / PhD stu­dent

(Sub­ject to per­so­nal qua­li­fi­ca­tion employees are remu­ne­ra­ted accord­ing to salary group E 13 TV-L)
The posi­tion starts at 01.05.2020 and lasts for 3 years until 30.04.2023. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz - WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD).

Work­ing field:

The rese­arch group deals with the inves­ti­ga­tion of the flow of foam and froth. It will deve­lop and cha­rac­te­rize novel mea­su­rement tech­ni­ques. In a later stage, these tech­ni­ques will be app­lied to selec­ted foam flow con­fi­gu­ra­ti­ons. The pro­ject is car­ried out in close col­la­bo­ra­tion with the Helm­holtz-Zen­trum Dres­den-Ros­sen­dorf.
In the offe­red posi­tion elec­tri­cal impe­dance tomo­gra­phy and the Wire-Mesh sen­sor will be employed to foam in order to mea­sure the liquid frac­tion with high spa­tial and tem­po­ral reso­lu­tion. Vali­da­tion of the mea­su­rement will be car­ried out by neu­tron radio­gra­phy. Sub­se­quently, the wash-water dis­tri­bu­tion in froth will be ana­ly­sed in order to opti­mise foam washing in mine­ral flota­tion.

Require­ments:

A very good uni­ver­sity degree in Phy­sics, Elec­tri­cal, or Mecha­ni­cal Engi­nee­ring, or a clo­sely rela­ted area is requi­red, as well as very good com­mu­ni­ca­tion and wri­ting skills in Eng­lish. Fur­ther­more, crea­ti­vity, per­so­nal initia­tive, inde­pen­dent work, as well as the abi­lity to work in a team are necessary. Expe­ri­ence in sen­sor deve­lop­ment, mea­su­rement tech­ni­que or fluid mecha­nics is desi­ra­ble. We tar­get at top-notch dedi­ca­ted and proac­tive young sci­en­tists who plan to make their mark in sci­ence.
