Work­ing field:

For rein­for­cing our team we are look­ing for a com­mit­ted research assist­ant with strong interest in research and teach­ing in mater­i­als sci­ence.
Our research com­prises the devel­op­ment of hier­arch­ic­ally struc­tured mater­i­als and the char­ac­ter­isa­tion of struc­ture/mech­an­ical-prop­erty rela­tion­ships on dif­fer­ent length-scales. We focus on com­plex load­ing com­bin­a­tions, espe­cially fatigue. Spe­cific­ally, we are look­ing for a per­son­al­ity hold­ing a doc­toral degree (Dr.-Ing. or Dr. rer. nat.) and with a strong interest in numer­ical sim­u­la­tion in mater­i­als sci­ence, and aim­ing at a habil­it­a­tion. As part of the research work, the suc­cess­ful can­did­ate shall sup­port the head of depart­ment in obtain­ing third party fund­ing and in super­vising PhD stu­dents with a focus on finite ele­ment sim­u­la­tion. Fur­ther, the depart­ment shall be rep­res­en­ted on national and inter­na­tional con­fer­ences, and the res­ults shall be pub­lished in renowned journ­als. The researcher is fur­ther respons­ible for the used machines and equip­ment.
The depart­ment offers a vari­ety of bach­elor and mas­ter courses for mater­i­als sci­ence and engin­eer­ing stu­dents, e.g. ”Mater­i­als Sci­ence“, ”Mater­i­als Selec­tion“, ”Fatigue“, or ”Bioin­spired Mater­i­als“. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate will give lec­tures and lab-courses inde­pend­ently, advise stu­dents, and sup­port the teach­ing admin­is­tra­tion. Fur­ther­more, the engaged and qual­i­fied super­vi­sion of bach­elor and mas­ter theses is expec­ted. The future team mem­ber shall fur­ther take part in admin­is­trat­ive, organ­isa­tional and pub­lic rela­tion tasks within the depart­ment, espe­cially in tasks related to teach­ing organ­iz­a­tion.


  • suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) and doc­tor­ate (PhD, Dr.-Ing., Dr.rer.nat.) in mater­i­als sci­ence, mech­an­ical engin­eer­ing or sim­ilar dis­cip­lines;
  • prac­tical exper­i­ence, keen interest and skill in the set-up of finite ele­ment mod­els from mCT data, and in mod­el­ling and sim­u­la­tion of mech­an­ical prop­er­ties of mater­i­als, under con­sid­er­a­tion of cor­ros­ive envir­on­ments;
  • struc­tured work­ing, organ­isa­tional skills and good time man­age­ment;
  • abil­ity and keen interest to work in an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary, inter­cul­tural team, sense of respons­ib­il­ity and reli­ab­il­ity;
  • very good know­ledge of Ger­man and Eng­lish in writ­ing and speak­ing, so that courses can be given in both lan­guages;
  • excel­lent skills in writ­ing sci­entific texts and in present­ing and dis­cuss­ing sci­entific res­ults (in Eng­lish)
  • keen interest in build­ing up a research group focused on mod­el­ling of mech­an­ical prop­er­ties of mater­i­als by apply­ing for third party fund­ing
  • keen interest in achiev­ing a habil­it­a­tion
Advant­age­ous qual­i­fic­a­tions:
  • teach­ing exper­i­ence, interest in diversity top­ics and new teach­ing meth­ods;
  • exper­i­ence in super­vising PhD stu­dents;
  • exper­i­ence in apply­ing for third party fund­ing;
  • exper­i­ence with Abaqus.
