Research Assistant (PhD candidate) - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

under the reserve that funds are granted - part-time employment may be possible

Working field:

Cogeneration of heat and power plays an essential role for the reduction of CO2 emissions. In the field of private homes, the combination of a Stirling engine to generate electrical power and a pellet furnace to generate heat is an appropriate solution. With the use of spatially resolved Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) different concepts to enhance the heat transfer between the exhaust gas and the heat exchanger of the Stirling engine will be investigated. This will lead to an increase in efficiency for the overall process. Other aspects like an efficient separation of ash particles from the exhaust gas will also be numerically investigated. The numerical results will be compared and validated with experimental data from an industrial partner. In collaboration with them a concept will be developed that shows major ecological and economical enhancements in comparison to the existing prototype. PhD thesis preparation is possible.

Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in process engineering or a closely related engineering field with a focus on fluid dynamics with a very good degree. English language skills are required due to the international working group. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in numerical modeling of fluid dynamics and heat transfer phenomena. Experience using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Java is desired, but not expected.
