The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

The posi­tion is star­ting on March 1, 2020. The posi­tion ent­ails 65% of the full­time wee­kly hours and is fixed-term for 3 years. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz – WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD).
The suc­cess­ful app­li­cant will work with Dr. Andrea Rei­ter, Prof. Shu-Chen Li, Ph.D und Prof. Dr. Phil­ipp Kanske on the newly fun­ded DFG-pro­ject “Deci­phe­ring cogni­tive and affec­tive neural cor­re­la­tes of pro­so­cial decision making in adult deve­lop­ment”.

Work­ing field:

The pro­ject is a col­la­bo­ra­tion bet­ween the Chair of Life­span Deve­lop­men­tal Neu­ro­sci­ence and the Chair of Cli­ni­cal Psy­cho­logy and Beha­viou­ral Neu­ro­sci­ence. Using func­tio­nal and struc­tu­ral MRI as well as expe­ri­men­tal tasks, we aim to inves­ti­gate the cogni­tive and affec­tive (i.e., Theory of Mind and Empa­thy) neural cor­re­la­tes of pro­so­cial decision-making across the adult life­span. The suc­cess­ful can­di­date will have the oppor­tu­nity to take part in all pha­ses of the pro­ject, inclu­ding data collec­tion and ana­ly­ses, pre­sen­ta­tion of results at con­fe­ren­ces and manu­script pre­pa­ra­ti­ons.


uni­ver­sity degree (Diploma, Mas­ter) in Psy­cho­logy, Cogni­tive/Affec­tive Neu­ro­sci­ence, Cogni­tive Sci­ence, com­pu­ta­tio­nal Neu­ro­sci­ence, Machine Lear­ning or rela­ted fields; inte­rest in (social) neu­ro­sci­ence and life­span rese­arch. Can­di­da­tes with expe­ri­ence in (f)MRI, pro­gramming skills (e.g., MAT­LAB, R) or an inte­rest in acqui­ring them are par­ti­cu­larly encou­ra­ged to apply.

What we of­fer:

The Faculty of Psy­cho­logy offers an exci­ting and sup­por­tive mul­ti­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch envi­ron­ment with ample oppor­tu­nities for trai­ning and col­la­bo­ra­tion. The Chair of Life­span Deve­lop­men­tal Neu­ro­sci­ence has one 64-chan­nel elec­tro­en­ce­pha­logra­phy (EEG) sys­tem with EEG cabin, eye­tra­cker sys­tems, direct cur­rent sti­mu­la­tion (tDCS) sys­tems, beha­vio­ral tes­ting rooms as well as access to a rese­arch-dedi­ca­ted 3T MRI scan­ner and tran­scra­nial magne­tic sti­mu­la­tion (TMS) through the uni­ver­sity’s Neu­ro­ima­ging Centre.
