The Wis­sen­schafts­zen­trum Ber­lin für Sozi­al­for­schung gGmbH (WZB Ber­lin Social Sci­ence Centre), rese­arch depart­ment Insti­tu­ti­ons and Poli­ti­cal Ine­qua­lity IPI (Direc­tor: Pro­fes­sor Macar­tan Hum­phreys) seeks to hire

A Pre­doc­to­ral Rese­arch Fel­low (f/m/x)

star­ting on 1 August 2019 for the dura­tion of two years. The appoint­ment is made at 100% of the regu­lar working hours (cur­r­ently 39 hours/week).

The WZB is a publicly finan­ced inter­na­tio­nal social sci­ence insti­tu­tion that con­ducts basic rese­arch that is theory-based and pro­blem-ori­en­ted (see: The rese­arch depart­ment IPI uses obser­va­tio­nal and expe­ri­men­tal methods to study major pro­blems rela­ted to the poli­ti­cal eco­nomy of social and poli­ti­cal ine­qua­lity with a focus on the poli­ti­cal eco­nomy of inter­na­tio­nal deve­lop­ment.

Tasks: The rese­ar­cher will con­duct rese­arch and pro­vide rese­arch sup­port to the rese­arch depart­ment on topics rela­ted to the unit’s the­ma­tic rese­arch areas. He or she will con­duct sta­tis­ti­cal ana­ly­sis, deve­lop new instru­ments for data collec­ting, con­duct lite­ra­ture sear­ches, and deve­lop manu­scripts and other docu­ments to publish rese­arch results.

Er­war­te­te Qua­li­fi­ka­tio­nen:

Requi­re­ments: A mas­ter degree in a social sci­ence disci­pline or sta­tis­tics is requi­red. Sta­tis­ti­cal skills are essen­tial inclu­ding com­pe­tence in R and/or STATA as well as excel­lent Eng­lish wri­ting and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills (Eng­lish is the working lan­guage of the unit). Pre­fe­rence will be given to app­li­cants with field work expe­ri­ence.

The posi­tion is ideal for a can­di­date with a mas­ters in hand who wants to acquire rese­arch expo­sure and deve­lop a rese­arch design and ana­ly­sis skills to embark on a PhD.
