About us:

The overall aim of the ForestOvershoot joint project is to quantify the potential and timing of negative emissions through forest management and innovative uses of wood in the construction sector in Germany — taking into account increasing forest disturbance risks, changing climatic conditions and management strategies, as well as overshooting (i.e. exceeding climate targets).

The aim of the sub-project is to estimate the carbon storage potential of conventional and innovative wood products, along with the associated carbon emissions in the German construction sector under various scenarios.

Your responsibility:

  • Participation in the sub-project of the joint research project “Forest Overshoot.”
  • Design, development and implementation of a workflow for a Carbon Cycle Assessment Tool
  • Integration of the workflow into an existing numerical model
  • Development and evaluation of scenarios for carbon storage and emissions in urban infrastructures
  • Integrated analysis of carbon emissions and storage in urban and forest systems
  • Contribution to scientific publications, conferences and project reports

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of numerical modelling and data analysis
  • Experience in programming (e.g. Python, R, MATLAB or comparable languages)
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.
  • Interest in urban ecological issues and sustainable construction desirable
  • Independent, well-structured working style and ability to work in a team desirable

What we offer:

  • A varied role within an interdisciplinary research team
  • Opportunities for further academic qualification (e.g. PhD)
