The professorship is offered pending the provision of funding.
Technische Universität Berlin is an Excellence University within the Berlin University Alliance, with around 35,000 students, approximately 350 professors, and around 7,000 employees. We value the diversity of our members, pursue the goals of equal opportunity, and are certified as a family-friedly university.
Founded in 1982, the Center for Research on Antisemitism (ZfA) at TU Berlin is one of the most important institutions of its kind in the world. It deals with interdisciplinary basic research into various forms of discrimination, hostility and violence in their diverse causes, manifestations and effects in the past and present. The focus is on antisemitism, with neighboring topics such as racism, antiziganism, Islamophobia etc. as well as Jewish studies etc., playing a growing role in the Center's research and teaching. In the future, research at the ZfA must be understood even more in terms of the corresponding thematic, methodological and disciplinary interrelationships.
We are looking for a researcher who can represent antisemitism research in the breadth and interconnectedness of the discipline both professionally and methodologically. The candidate should be a humanities and/or social science scholar who focuses on antisemitism as an interdisciplinary form of discrimination, hostility and violence. Applicants must also be able to integrate at least one of two research perspectives into the future work of the ZfA:
In terms of content, gender-theoretical issues are important in order to be able to integrate the topics of misogyny and misogyny in antisemitism research. Participation in and further development of teaching in the Master's program “Interdisciplinary Antisemitism Research” and in the Bachelor's programs “Culture and Technology” at Faculty I of the TU Berlin as well as intensive cooperation with Faculty I departments is expected. Existing cooperation with non-university and TU-wide institutions, e.g. the Selma Stern Center, should be continued and - if necessary - realigned according to the focus. We are looking for a scientist who takes a stand in social and political discussions and has proven skills in policy advice. As a university with an international profile, we require our professors to teach in German an English or be willing to acquire the language skills they lack within a reasonable period of time.
Tasks include leadership and management of the department and its employees, promotion of young researchers, women and social diversity, knowledge transfer, internationalization initiatives, gender- and diversity-competent and sustainability-oriented action as well as committee and commission work. In recent years, the ZfA has begun to integrate more methods and approaches of artificial intelligence (AI) and also to set up digitalization projects. The professorship is intended to continue this commitment to the fields as far as possible.
