The Cluster of Excellence “Physics of Life” (PoL) has a vacancy starting January 1, 2026 as
Head of Microscopy, Image Analysis and Biophysics Facilities (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 14 TV-L)
limited until December 31, 2032. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).
The position included the following Tasks:
— management of the facilities, including the scientific design and implementation of innovative interdisciplinary research and development projects in the fields of advanced microscopy, biophysical measurements, and image analysis at PoL. This also includes the continuous development of the facilities and expansion of the methodological and technological range of services
— management and technical guidance of a multidisciplinary team and promotion of internal and external cooperation
— providing scientific advice on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of high-performance light microscopy experiments
— coordinating the smooth operation of the facilities, including instructing users in the operation of the imaging and biophysics facilities; coordinating adjustments, repairs, and maintenance measures
— scientific organizational tasks such as scientific support for procurement and infrastructure measures; management of the facilities' budget, service contracts, and reporting obligations to institutional stakeholders
— university and PhD degree in biophysics, physics, biology, or a similarly suitable field
— solid experience in advanced imaging, image analysis, and/or biophysical measurement techniques
— experience in team leadership or research infrastructure management is a big plus
— excellent communication and team coordination skills
— service-oriented mindset and ability to support various research projects
— fluent English skills (spoken and written); German skills are an advantage
