Architectural theory sees itself as a fundamental science, with the scientific interest of the field lying in critical theory of architecture. The scientific approach is characterised by the question of the connection between knowledge, architectural design and material practice, which encompasses the systematization and specification of the methodological instruments of architectural theory as a science, the question of the theory of history and the critical reflection of current architectural practice in the context of digital humanities, sustainability, resources and intergenerational justice. A particular focus is placed on the semiotic, perceptual-aesthetic, anthropological, epistemological and scientific-theoretical aspects of architectural theory. The department maintains close research collaborations with universities in Italy, Spain, Japan and Israel.
