Accordingly, we welcome all applicants who would like to commit themselves, their achievements and productivity to the success of the whole institution.

Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)

At the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry, the Chair of Theoretical Chemistry offers two positions as

Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting February 1, 2025 with the flexibility for an earlier or later start. The positions are initially limited to one year, with the option of extension for up to two additional years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification.
The positions are available in the research group of Dr. Dorothea Golze at TUD. The ERC-funded positions are part of the PhotoMat project which focuses on developing advanced computational tools for investigating photochemical and photophysical processes at materials interfaces.

Working field:

In this position, you will have the opportunity to drive advancements in computational excited-state simulations. Specifically, you will develop methods to predict excited-state properties and dynamics at material interfaces, based on ab initio Green's function theory in the GW approximation. One postdoctoral position will focus on developing and advancing the theoretical foundations, while the other will concentrate on implementing low-scaling algorithms for efficient execution on the next generation of exascale supercomputers, including GPU acceleration. The methods will be implemented in community codes, such as FHI-aims, in close collaboration with the developer community.

Requirements:

university and PhD degree in computational physics / chemistry / material science. We are looking for a motivated candidate with strong background in developing electronic structure methods. Solid programming skills and experience in parallelizing code on CPU HPC architectures are expected. Good team working skills and ability to collaborate with other researchers on community codes are advantageous. Experience in theoretical spectroscopy methods, such as GW and GW+BSE, and experience with GPU programming are a plus, but not mandatory.

What we offer:

  • training and courses in parallel programming at European supercomputing centers
  • work in international and interdisciplinary environment
  • broad qualification program and career support by the Graduate Academy of TUD

How to apply:

TUD strives to employ more women in academia and research. We therefore expressly encourage women to apply. The University is a certified family-friendly university and offers a Dual Career Service. We welcome applications from candidates with disabilities. If multiple candidates prove to be equally qualified, those with disabilities or with equivalent status pursuant to the German Social Code IX (SGB IX) will receive priority for employment.

Please submit your complete application (CV, a brief statement describing your qualifications and research interests and contact information of two references) by December 10, 2024 (stamped arrival date of the university central mail service or the time stamp on the email server of TUD applies), preferably via the TUD SecureMail Portal https://securemail.tu-dresden.de by sending it as a single pdf file with the subject “Application for open Postdoc position/PhotoMat” to dorothea.golze@tu-dresden.de or to: TU Dresden, Fakultät Chemie und Lebensmittelchemie, Professur für Theoretische Chemie, Frau Dr. Dorothea Golze, Helmholtzstr. 10, 01069 Dresden, Germany. Please submit copies only, as your application will not be returned to you. Expenses incurred in attending interviews cannot be reimbursed.
