Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty IV - Institute of Telecommunication Systems / Distributed and Operating Systems

Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

Working field:

The research assistant will work within the international and interdisciplinary project ide3a and in a team of five peer research assistants called “ide3a ambassadors” on the topic of “Critical Infrastructure & Digitalization”. ide3a aims to implement this interdisciplinary topic in traditional research-based study programs, combined with gamification mechanisms and short courses, accessible at the ide3a partner universities and supported by digital education platforms and open knowledge tools.
The research assistant will be located in the Complex and Distributed Systems group of Prof. Dr. Odej Kao (https://www.cit.tu-berlin.de/) at TU Berlin and will also have access to the interdisciplinary working environment of the Einstein Center Digital Future. Moreover, the research activities will be developed collaboratively with the research groups at the ide3a partner universities in Europe (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Dublin City University, Cracow University of Technology, Politecnico di Milano). Short research stays at these universities are highly encouraged and will be supported financially by ide3a.
The candidate will research new models and tools to co-simulate distributed computing infrastructures with other critical infrastructures (e.g. water networks, traffic and transportation systems, electric grids) and, thereby, contribute to the development of a multi-layered, open source serious game that allows scenario analysis and optimization of critical urban infrastructure systems under heterogeneous social, technical, and climate scenarios. A professional game developer and student workers will support these activities.
The tasks for this position include
(i) the publication of research outcomes in scientific papers and presentations at international conferences,
(ii) contributions to the teaching activities and hackathons of the ide3a project, and
(iii) support of BSc/MSc students in their thesis preparation.
The position includes the option to prepare a PhD thesis.
