The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Junior Rese­arch Group Lea­der on Tis­sue Orga­ni­za­tion and Dyna­mics

The posi­tion is to be fil­led as soon as pos­si­ble, initi­ally for a limi­ted five-year con­tract. At the end of the fourth year, a ten­ure eva­lua­tion will be car­ried out by a cross-faculty and cross-depart­mental com­mis­sion. Fol­lo­wing a posi­tive eva­lua­tion, a per­ma­nent Chair (W2) of Tis­sue Orga­ni­za­tion and Dyna­mics will be gran­ted wit­hout a rene­wed call for app­li­ca­ti­ons. Cri­te­ria for the ten­ure eva­lua­tion pro­ce­dure will be mutually agreed upon when the posi­tion is accep­ted. Essen­tial com­pon­ents of the ten­ure eva­lua­tion will be sci­en­ti­fic suc­cess, the ori­gi­na­lity and crea­ti­vity of the rese­arch, the qua­lity and quan­tity of the publi­ca­ti­ons, the suc­cess in obtai­ning third-party fun­ding as well as a posi­tively eva­lua­ted tea­ching per­for­mance.

Work­ing field:

During the tem­porary employ­ment, the suc­cess­ful can­di­date must prove that she/he is able to fully rep­re­sent the field of tis­sue orga­ni­sa­tion and dyna­mics in rese­arch and tea­ching. She/He is expec­ted to carry out rese­arch tasks in the field of tis­sue mor­pho­ge­ne­sis at the EXC PoL (phy­sics-of-life.tu-dres­\en) and at the MPI-CBG ( The posi­tion offers an excel­lent envi­ron­ment wit­hin the DFG-fun­ded Clus­ter of Excel­lence, inclu­ding oppor­tu­nities for inter­di­sci­pli­nary col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons with rese­arch groups of the MPI-CBG, PoL, CMCB, as well as the Facul­ties of Phy­sics, Bio­logy and Com­pu­ter Sci­ence and the Max Planck Insti­tute for the Phy­sics of Com­plex Sys­tems. Tea­ching in the inter­na­tio­nal mas­ter pro­gram­mes "Mole­cu­lar Bio­en­gi­nee­ring", "Nano­bio­phy­sics" or "Rege­ne­ra­tive Bio­logy and Medi­cine" (in Ger­man or Eng­lish) as well as par­ti­ci­pa­tion in aca­de­mic self-admi­nis­tra­tion and in aca­de­mic com­mit­tees are expec­ted.


In this call, we are loo­king for a junior rese­ar­cher with a uni­ver­sity and doc­to­ral degree and post­doc­to­ral expe­ri­ence in one of the fol­lo­wing areas: in vitro models of orga­no­ge­ne­sis, in par­ti­cu­lar orga­no­ids, tis­sue engi­nee­ring, sys­tems bio­logy and bio­phy­sics of mor­pho­ge­ne­sis, cell and tis­sue dyna­mics of deve­lop­ment and mor­pho­ge­ne­sis. Expe­ri­ence in the imple­men­ta­tion and deve­lop­ment of new methods and approa­ches to inves­ti­gate the phy­si­cal laws of collec­tive cell beha­viour is desi­ra­ble. Approa­ches ran­ging from the mole­cu­lar to the tis­sue scale are par­ti­cu­larly wel­come. The pri­mary cri­te­ria for appoint­ment will be a strong record of inno­va­tive rese­arch and aca­de­mic per­for­mance, an ori­gi­nal and pro­mi­sing vision for the future work pro­gram in the centre, as well as a high poten­tial for estab­li­shing an inde­pen­dent rese­arch group with fruit­ful inter­di­sci­pli­nary col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons. Tea­ching expe­ri­ence in the named areas is desi­ra­ble. The pre­re­qui­si­tes for appoint­ment to the unli­mi­ted Chair (W2) after suc­cess­ful ten­ure eva­lua­tion are based on § 58 SächsHSFG.
