Das Leibniz-Institut für Agrartechnik und Bioökonomie e.V. (ATB) ist ein national und international agierendes Forschungszentrum an der Schnittstelle von biologischen und technischen Systemen. Das ATB betreibt Forschung mit dem Ziel, Grundlagen für nachhaltige bioökonomische Produktionssysteme zu schaffen. Dazu entwickelt und integriert das ATB neue Technologien und Managementstrategien für eine wissensbasierte, standortspezifische Produktion von Biomasse und deren Nutzung für die Ernährung, als biobasierte Produkte und Energieträger – von der Grundlagenforschung bis zur Anwendung.

for the topics Modelling of sustainable European livestock systems, with a focus on efficient greenhouse gas and nitrogen mitigation on farm level
We are seeking - subject to final budget approval for granted projects - for a Scientist (Postdoc) (m/f/d) (65%) for the topics Modelling of sustainable European livestock systems, with a focus on efficient greenhouse gas and nitrogen mitigation on farm level for three years, starting in January 2020.
ATB coordinates two projects funded under the EraNet Joint Call 2018. European, New Zealand and Chile partners will develop a whole system concept for three pillar sustainable dairy production systems targeted to key European regions and for mitigation of greenhouse gas and nitrogen emissions from livestock systems. European regions are highly diverse and complex, so no “one size fits all”-solution is available. A prototype for an Open Access decision support system on the farm level especially for GHG and N mitigation strategies will be developed. Relationships between biotic and abiotic drivers of manure and grazing emissions will be established and integrated into farm scale decision support systems and into national emission inventories.
In collaboration with project partners create an overview on key parameters and framework for emission mitigation and sustainability assessment of European dairy and livestock production systems
Contribute to the 3P sustainability assessment and the development of the farm scale decision support system
Process, analyse and exchange data using statistical analysis and research data management methods
Contribute to the development of an interactive web platform on optimised dairy production systems in key European areas and on functional relationships for emissions from livestock systems
Contribute to the improvement of national emission inventories
Publish results in peer-reviewed journals
Support the coordinator of both projects: project management tasks, dissemination activities; administration of project website
Your professional qualification profile:
University degree, PhD in natural sciences or related engineering disciplines
Profound research experience and knowledge in European livestock systems
Parameter studies and sensitivity analyses
LCA methodology, drivers of GHG and N emissions in livestock systems, inventory compilation
Very good knowledge of statistical data analysis and experience in related software (e.g. R, MATLAB)
Fluent English language proficiency and proven ability to write scientific publications
Preferably experienced in project management
Independent, self-responsible, reliable and result-oriented way of working
Ability to analyse complex data and situations
Strong communication and teamwork skills, ability to cooperate, flexibility, commitment, ability to work under pressure, reliability
Willingness to travel, valid driving license for use in Europe (min. category B)

The salary is based on your qualification and professional experience, according to German public service salary scale (TV-L E13).
