Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - Centre for Tac­tile Inter­net with Human-in-the-Loop (CeTI)

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Junior Rese­arch Group Lea­der for Human Per­cep­tion and Action

(Sub­ject to per­so­nal qua­li­fi­ca­tion employees are remu­ne­ra­ted accord­ing to salary group E 14 TV-L)
The posi­tion is star­ting in April 2020 with a fixed term until 31.12.2025 (an ear­lier star­ting date in 2020 could also be nego­tia­ted). The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz - WissZeitVG)
Rese­arch at CeTI aims at achie­ving signi­fi­cant bre­akth­roughs for enhan­cing col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons bet­ween humans and machi­nes in real, vir­tual and remote envi­ron­ments.

Work­ing field:

The suc­cess­ful app­li­cant is expec­ted to inde­pendently per­form the fol­lo­wing:
  • deve­lop and con­duct empi­ri­cal rese­arch on human mul­ti­sen­sory per­cep­tion and action with an empha­sis on human-machine inter­ac­tions;
  • estab­lish a rese­arch group, super­vise PhD fel­lows and Mas­ter stu­dents;
  • orga­nize the sha­red usa­ges of lab equip­ments in CeTI’s Human-in-the-Loop Lab;
  • publish rese­arch arti­cles in high-ran­king rese­arch jour­nals;
  • actively col­la­bo­rate with other rese­ar­chers in CeTI;
  • par­ti­ci­pate in grant app­li­ca­ti­ons and deve­lop new rese­arch pro­grams.

Require­ments:

Of par­ti­cu­lar inte­rest for us are excel­lent post­docs with uni­ver­sity and doc­to­ral degree from the fields of psy­cho­logy, cogni­tive sci­ence, or cogni­tive neu­ro­sci­ence whose rese­arch aims at under­stan­ding the dyna­mics of human goal-direc­ted mul­ti­sen­sory per­cep­tion and action in the con­text of human–machine inter­ac­tions. Can­di­da­tes with exper­tise in com­bi­ning motion cap­ture with vir­tual or aug­men­ted rea­lity sys­tems as well as com­pu­ta­tio­nal model­ling are par­ti­cu­larly encou­ra­ged to apply. The pri­mary cri­te­ria for appoint­ment will be a strong record of inno­va­tive rese­arch and aca­de­mic per­for­mance, an ori­gi­nal and pro­mi­sing vision for future work pro­gram in the centre, as well as high poten­tial for estab­li­shing an inde­pen­dent rese­arch group with fruit­ful inter­di­sci­pli­nary col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons.

The posi­tion offers an excel­lent envi­ron­ment wit­hin the DFG-fun­ded excel­lence clus­ter, inclu­ding oppor­tu­nities for inter­di­sci­pli­nary col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons bet­ween psy­cho­lo­gists, cogni­tive neu­ro­sci­en­tists, medi­cal rese­ar­chers and engi­neers as well as access to state-of-the-art tech­no­lo­gies.
