The research group of Dr. Tobias Beck is working on the construction of highly structured nanomaterials based on nanoparticles and protein containers. In this project, we will use a novel strategy for the synthesis of functional biohybrid materials, established within our group. Catalytically active nanoparticles will be encapsulated into protein containers and assembled to form three-dimensional catalytic materials. The nanoparticles are combined with organometallic catalysts inside the materials to enhance the reaction scope. Such materials will have application, for example in biomedicine. Along these lines, we have established a collaboration with the RWTH Aachen University hospital using nanostructured adsorber materials for toxin removal.

Within this interdisciplinary project, we offer a PhD position including training in several synthetic and analytical methods.

  • Mate­rial cha­rac­te­riza­t­ion, e.g. with X-ray scat­te­ring and elec­tron micro­scopy (TEM, SEM)
  • App­li­ca­tion of the mate­ri­als, e.g. in col­la­bo­ra­tion with the RWTH Aachen Uni­ver­sity hos­pi­tal

Er­war­te­te Qua­li­fi­ka­tio­nen:

  • Above-aver­age uni­ver­sity degree (Mas­ter or com­pa­ra­ble) in che­mis­try, bio­che­mis­try, bio­logy or mate­ri­als sci­ence or equi­va­lent
  • Great inte­rest in inno­va­tive and inter­di­sci­pli­nary topics
  • High level of initia­tive, sense of res­pon­si­bi­lity and team spi­rit
  • High moti­va­tion to carry out a doc­to­ral the­sis
  • optio­nal: pre­vious expe­ri­ence in nano­par­ti­cle syn­the­sis and/or orga­no­me­tal­lic che­mis­try

Un­ser An­ge­bot:

The posi­tion is for 3 years and is to be fil­led as soon as pos­si­ble. This is a part-time posi­tion (50% of the stan­dard weekly hours for full-time employees).

The suc­cess­ful can­di­date has the oppor­tu­nity to pur­sue a doc­to­ral degree.

The salary cor­re­sponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
