at the Leib­niz-Insti­tut für Poly­mer­for­schung Dres­den e.V. (IPF)

The posi­tion is to be fil­led by Sep­tem­ber 1st, 2018 in a joint appoint­ment pro­ce­dure.

The Insti­tute of Mate­ri­als Sci­ence repres­ents the mate­ri­als sci­ence and mate­ri­als tech­no­logy in aca­de­mic rese­arch and teaching at the TU Dres­den. Fun­da­men­tal and app­li­ca­tion­ori­en­ted ques­ti­ons of mate­ri­als rese­arch are at the same time focu­sed on to fos­ter the deve­lop­ment of new mate­ri­als and their tech­no­lo­gi­cal imple­men­ta­tion into inno­va­tive pro­ducts, in close inter­ac­tion bet­ween uni­ver­sity and non-uni­ver­sity rese­arch insti­tu­ti­ons and in coope­ra­tion with the pri­vate sec­tor.

The IPF is a legally and eco­no­mi­cally inde­pen­dent rese­arch insti­tu­tion of inter­na­tio­nal reco­gni­tion and a mem­ber of the Leib­niz-Gemein­schaft (Leib­niz Asso­cia­tion). The IPF car­ries out com­pre­hen­sive poly­mer mate­rial rese­arch. One rese­arch focus at the IPF insti­tute of Poly­mer Mate­ri­als is on elast­o­me­ric mate­ri­als. The IPF and the TU Dres­den aim to streng­t­hen the field of Elast­o­m­ers Sci­ence in Dres­den by the appoint­ment of this joint W2 Chair.

Work­ing field:

We are loo­king for a recognised sci­en­tist with pro­ven skills in the field of Elast­o­me­ric Mate­ri­als and with a rese­arch focus on new, com­plex mate­rial and pro­ces­sing con­cepts for the deve­lop­ment, app­li­ca­tion-appro­priate tech­no­lo­gi­cal imple­men­ta­tion and cha­rac­te­ri­sa­tion of novel func­tio­nal elast­o­me­ric mate­ri­als as e.g. sys­tem com­po­n­ents in energy-effi­ci­ent light­weight con­struc­tion and mobi­lity tech­no­lo­gies, intel­li­gent mate­ri­als and com­po­si­tes and medi­cal tech­no­logy, with a focus on pro­cess engi­nee­ring. In the teaching, cour­ses in the fields of the che­mi­cal-phy­si­cal basics of con­ven­tio­nal and ther­mo­pla­s­tic elast­o­m­ers, methods and machi­nes of rub­ber tech­no­logy, elast­o­mer pro­ces­sing and struc­ture-pro­perty-func­tio­nal rela­ti­ons­hips of elast­o­me­ric mate­ri­als are expec­ted to be held. Appro­priate teaching expe­ri­ence is expec­ted. The wil­ling­ness to par­ti­ci­pate in natio­nal and inter­na­tio­nal rese­arch net­works, inclu­ding the initia­tion and pro­cu­re­ment of new rese­arch coope­ra­tion pro­jects is requi­red. The duties include par­ti­ci­pa­tion in aca­de­mic self-admi­nis­tra­tion.

Require­ments:

In par­tic­u­lar, com­pre­hens­ive know­ledge is required in the fields of

  • Pro­cess-driven mor­pho­logy and prop­erty form­a­tion in elast­omer mix­ing and shap­ing pro­cesses
  • Devel­op­ment of func­tion-integ­rated elast­omer (nano) com­pos­ites, high-per­form­ance elast­omers and ther­mo­plastic vul­can­iz­ates
  • Tailored interphase design for particle- and tex­tile-rein­forced elast­omer com­pos­ites
  • Sus­tain­able and resource-con­serving elast­omers

Excel­lent track record and rel­ev­ant exper­i­ence in research and teach­ing on the sub­ject areas men­tioned, as well as in the instruc­tion and lead­er­ship of aca­demic and non-aca­demic per­son­nel and a will­ing­ness and abil­ity to con­duct classes in Eng­lish are expec­ted.
Applic­ants must ful­fil the employ­ment qual­i­fic­a­tion require­ments of § 58 of the Act Gov­ern­ing Aca­demic Free­dom in Higher Edu­ca­tion in the Free State of Sax­ony (Saxon Aca­demic Free­dom in Higher Edu­ca­tion Act – Säch­sHSFG).
