Uni­versity Pro­fessor - salary grade W3

for the chair of "Struc­tural Bio­logy".

The pro­fess­or­ship is an innov­a­tion pro­fess­or­ship, which is an instru­ment of stra­tegic plan­ning in higher edu­ca­tion, in order to quickly and flex­ibly enhance prom­ising dis­cip­lines.

Work­ing field:

The research pro­file should be in the field of devel­op­ing and apply­ing innov­at­ive sci­entific meth­ods to research ques­tions in struc­tural bio­logy. In the frame­work of exper­i­mental and com­pu­ta­tional research activ­it­ies spe­cial emphasis should be dir­ec­ted towards applic­a­tions in under­stand­ing pro­tein func­tion. Par­ti­cip­a­tion in inter­dis­cip­lin­ary teams and ini­ti­ation of such teams is expec­ted par­tic­u­larly in the field of the Excel­lence-Cluster UniSy­sCat. In teach­ing, courses must be provided for under­gradu­ate and mas­ter stu­dents of Bio­tech­no­logy. Applic­ants must be able to con­duct their lec­tures in Eng­lish and, after a learn­ing period and restric­ted to under­gradu­ate teach­ing, as well in Ger­man. There­fore applic­ants are expec­ted to learn either Eng­lish or Ger­man. The role includes respons­ib­il­ity for super­vising thesis work at all levels and for par­ti­cip­at­ing in aca­demic gov­ernance.


Can­did­ates should ful­fill the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a fin­ished aca­demic edu­ca­tion in Bio­tech­no­logy or a nat­ural sci­ence dis­cip­line, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (PhD), post-doc­toral lec­ture qual­i­fic­a­tion (Habil­it­a­tion) or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tion (e.g., doc­u­mented by qual­ity of sci­entific papers) and ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions, to be given proof of by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for more inform­a­tion see TUB web­site, quick access no. 144242).
Can­did­ates should have an inter­na­tion­ally vis­ible research pro­file in the field of struc­tural bio­logy with spe­cial emphasis on innov­at­ive meth­ods as reflec­ted by high qual­ity sci­entific pub­lic­a­tions. Prior par­ti­cip­a­tion in inter­dis­cip­lin­ary teams as well as inter­na­tional exper­i­ence are desired. Exper­i­ence in teach­ing as well as acquis­i­tion and man­age­ment of research pro­jects is expec­ted. Exper­i­ence in stu­dent super­vi­sion, lead­ing a lar­ger research team, gen­der­main­stream­ing and in aca­demic gov­ernance are desired.
