Junior Professorship (W1) in Environmental Remote Sensing (W2 with tenure track)
As part of the Tenure Track Programme, the Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences invites applications for the Junior Professorship (W1) in Environmental Remote Sensing (W2 with tenure track) to begin on 1st October 2018.
The chosen candidate will initially receive a limited, four-year contract as a temporary public official. If the interim evaluation is positive, the employment contract will be extended to a total of six years. In the fifth year, a tenure evaluation will be carried out by a faculty-wide and school-wide commission. Following a positive evaluation, a- permanent Chair (W2) of Environmental Remote Sensing will be granted without a renewed call for applications.
During the temporary Junior Professorship, the candidate must prove that they are capable of fulfilling the research and teaching requirements in the field. They shall contribute core competence in methodological development for the preparation of quantitative data for the space-time analysis of environmental processes on regional and global scales. The focus of the research is on the development of image analysis methods for the evaluation of multi-sensory and multi-temporal remote sensing data in interdisciplinary cooperation with scientists of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. Active participation in the CAWR and an intensification of cooperation with other environmental research institutions in the region are expected. The candidate should have an international reputation in remote environmental science and be able to demonstrate successful previous work, especially in interdisciplinary cooperation with the Geosciences, Hydro Sciences or Forest Sciences. International networking and experience with acquiring third-party funds ought to be demonstrated through successful research collaborations or projects.
Teaching tasks are to be carried out primarily in the degree programmes Geodesy and Geoinformatics (Bachelor, Master). Willingness to offer relevant lectures in German and English in further degree programmes at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences is expected. In addition to an excellent aptitude for scientific work, a high pedagogical-didactic aptitude is required. We expect you to be actively involved in academic self-administration and in the academic committees of the faculty.
Evaluation criteria mutually agreed upon when the position is accepted will form the basis of the evaluation procedures. Essential elements of the evaluations will be scientific successes in the form of the development of an independent research profile for the Chair of Environmental Remote Sensing and its implementation in research, third-party funding projects and publica-tions, participation in national and international peer-reviewed publications and international conferences, success in acquiring third-party funds, the initiation of cooperation projects within the faculty and in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, active participation in the Center for Advanced Water Research (CAWR) as well as the development of innovative and positively-evaluated course contents in your area of expertise as well as for other degree programmes in the faculty, also in English.
