RWTH Aachen - Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer

The Transregional Collaborative Research Centre 129 “Oxyflame” is a research cooperation of 11 institutes at RWTH Aachen University, Ruhr University Bochum and Technical University Darmstadt and is funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The overall objective is the investigation of the physico-chemical foundations of solid fuel combustion in oxy-fuel atmosphere and the interactions between burner aerodynamics, flame and combustion chamber.
The vacant position is at the Institute of heat and mass transfer (WSA) within the faculty of mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University.

Research Assistant/Associate

Working field:

Research topic:
Modeling of Particle Radiation in pulverized solid fuel combustion.

Scope of Work:
  • Modeling of particle radiation based on mathematical methods for the application in numerical simulations.
  • Detailed investigation of radiative heat transfer to derive generalized models for application in large scale simulations.
  • Experimental determination of material properties.
  • Integration of experimental data and models in a program for the calculation of radiative heat transfer.

Requirements:

  • University degree (Master or equivalent) in mechanical or chemical engineering with above average scores.
  • Interest in innovative and interdisciplinary topics as well as in processes of solid fuel combustion.
  • High level of responsibility, initiative and team spirit.
  • Experience in radiation modelling is highly welcome.

What we offer:

The position is until June 30th, 2021 and is to be filled as soon as possible. There is an option to extend the position for a term of up to 5 years. This is a full-time position. It is also available as part-time employment per request.

The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.

The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.

RWTH Aachen University is certified as a "Family-Friendly University". We particularly welcome and encourage applications from women, disabled persons and ethnic minority groups, recognizing they are underrepresented across RWTH Aachen University. The principles of fair and open competition apply and appointments will be made on merit.
