Uni­versity Pro­fessor - salary grade W3

in the field of "Inter­net and Soci­ety".

The pro­fess­or­ship includes a pos­i­tion as Dir­ector of the Weizen­baum Insti­tute for the net­worked soci­ety (The Ger­man Inter­net Insti­tute), see which is fin­anced by the Ger­man Min­istry of Research and Edu­ca­tion (BMBF).

Work­ing field:

The future incum­bent will have a sig­ni­fic­ant focus of the work in the over­lap of Com­puter Sci­ence (Inform­at­ics) and Social Sci­ences and work in par­tic­u­lar on socio-tech­nical aspects wrt. data-driven innov­a­tions and data pro­tec­tion; digital iden­tit­ies, pri­vacy and self-determ­in­a­tion; man­age­ment of digital infra­struc­tures, sys­tems and pro­cesses; secur­ity and safety; and qual­ity assur­ance of crit­ical sys­tems and infra­struc­tures in research and edu­ca­tion.
The teach­ing assign­ment includes con­tri­bu­tions to the degree courses on Com­puter Sci­ence, Com­puter Engin­eer­ing, Busi­ness Inform­at­ics and Digital Media & Tech­no­logy and within the fac­ulty ser­vices in degree courses on Indus­trial Engin­eer­ing, Com­mu­nic­a­tion Sci­ence, and Soci­ology and Tech­no­logy Stud­ies, both in the Bach­elor and in the Mas­ter degree pro­grams as well as for PhD stud­ies. It is expec­ted to cooper­ate with the other depart­ments of the fac­ulty and of the Weizen­baum Insti­tute in research and teach­ing as well as to con­trib­ute to the fur­ther devel­op­ment of the digit­al­iz­a­tion focus.
The acquis­i­tion of research pro­jects and the pro­mo­tion of co-oper­at­ive rela­tions with polit­ics and inter­na­tional ini­ti­at­ives on „Inter­net and Soci­ety“ are desired.
Dur­ing the fin­an­cial sup­port by BMBF, the num­ber of teach­ing hours is 4.5 in order to mas­ter the man­age­ment duties at the Weizen­baum Insti­tute, after­wards it is 9. The future incum­bent will be appoin­ted to Fac­ulty IV on Elec­trical Engin­eer­ing and Com­puter Sci­ence.
Proven achieve­ments and the con­stant read­i­ness for inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research in the over­lap of Com­puter Sci­ence (Inform­at­ics) and Social Sci­ences are required. They are to be demon­strated by a strong track record in pub­lic­a­tions and pro­jects.


Suc­cess­ful applic­ants must ful­fill the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance ith § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a com­pleted aca­demic edu­ca­tion, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (PhD), post-doc­toral teach­ing (Habil­it­a­tion) or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tion in Com­puter Sci­ence and cross sec­tion of Inter­net and Soci­ety as well as ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions and teach­ing expert­ise, to be given proof of by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for more inform­a­tion see TUB web­site, quick access no. 144242).
Applic­ants are reques­ted to sub­mit a first concept of the research and teach­ing activ­it­ies envis­aged with their applic­a­tion. Evid­ence of exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion of external fund­ing is desir­able.
