Work­ing field:

The post holder will assist the head of the depart­ment for Eth­ics and Philo­sophy of Tech­no­logy (Prof. Dr. Birgit Beck) with teach­ing and research in Philo­sophy, in par­tic­u­lar in the field of Eth­ics and Philo­sophy of Tech­no­logy. The depart­ment’s area of expert­ise includes eth­ical issues regard­ing the con­cep­tual and norm­at­ive ana­lysis of the rela­tion between human­ity, liv­ing envir­on­ment and tech­no­logy, tech­no­logy assess­ment and philo­soph­ical chal­lenges in a sci­entific-tech­no­lo­gical and increas­ingly glob­al­ising world. The post holder will sup­port teach­ing in the insti­tute’s degree pro­grammes “B. A. Cul­ture and Tech­no­logy – Core dis­cip­line Philo­sophy”, “M. A. Philo­sophy of Sci­ence and Know­ledge” and “Philo­sophy within inter­dis­cip­lin­ary stud­ies”. The post holder will as well assist the head of the depart­ment for Eth­ics and Philo­sophy of Tech­no­logy with estab­lish­ing an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary pro­gramme at the Fac­ulty V (Mech­an­ical Engin­eer­ing and Trans­port Sys­tems), with fun­drais­ing and the organ­isa­tion of events. Finally, the post holder will con­trib­ute to con­sol­id­at­ing inter­dis­cip­lin­ary net­work­ing at TU Ber­lin.

Require­ments:

Com­pleted doc­tor’s degree in the field of Eth­ics of Tech­no­logy/Philo­sophy of Tech­no­logy, excel­lent achieve­ments in teach­ing and research in the said field. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate shows appro­pri­ate exper­i­ence in teach­ing and research in the field of Eth­ics of Tech­no­logy/Philo­sophy of Tech­no­logy and is famil­iar with both the trans­fer of tech­nical know­ledge and philo­soph­ical and eth­ical meth­ods of ana­lys­ing and reflect­ing tech­no­logy’s soci­etal and envir­on­mental impact as well as respons­ib­il­ity for tech­no­logy. Work exper­i­ence abroad, exper­i­ence in (both aca­demic and non-uni­versity) net­work­ing as well as pub­lic rela­tions – includ­ing social media – are very wel­comed. Exper­i­ence in the field of equal­ity and women’s advance­ment would be an asset. In addi­tion to an excel­lent philo­soph­ical qual­i­fic­a­tion, the suc­cess­ful can­did­ate ideally shows high edu­ca­tional aptitude and is a reli­able, cre­at­ive, innov­at­ive and dynamic per­son.
