The Institute of Resource Ecology performs research to protect humans and the environment from hazards caused by pollutants resulting from technical processes that produce energy and raw materials.

The Department of Radiation Research on Biological Systems is looking for a

PhD Student (f/m/d) to investigate the impact of ionizing radiation on mammalian cells.

English

Working field:

  • Cultivation of mammalian cells
  • Biochemical as well as cell and molecular biological methods to study the interactions of alpha emitters with mammalian cells
  • Characterization of the molecular species of the radionuclide in cellular compartments/cells using spectroscopic techniques (e.g., UV-Vis, Raman, X-ray absorption spectroscopy) and microscopic methods (e.g., electron microscopy)
  • Writing scientific publications and presenting research results to scientific communities
  • Mentoring student courses in Radiobiology or Radiochemistry

Requirements:

  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacy or Chemistry or related field
  • Experience in experimental laboratory work
  • Excellent knowledge of a broad range of biochemical, cell and molecular as well as analytical methods are an advantage
  • Willingness to handle unsealed radioactive materials within a radiation-controlled laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of handling radioactive materials and radiochemical methods is an advantage
  • High motivation and initiative
  • Ability to communicate and carry out work in an interdisciplinary research team (radiochemistry, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, medicine)
  • Willingness to participate in scientific conferences, seminars and workshops
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
